The Stress that Debt Brings and How To Deal With It

Financial Stress?

Persistent headache, fast heart rate, cold and clammy hands, sweating, sleeplessness, irritability – these are just few of the symptoms of stress. Not very many people realize that these feelings or emotions are caused by stress, but they are. Stress symptoms can have a negative effect on your body, your thoughts and feelings, and your behavior.

These feelings are common to people who are under severe emotional duress. One very specific example of people suffering from moderate to severe stress are people who are “buried under the rubble” of their debt. Usually, the problem is with excessive credit card debt.

What’s disturbing with this situation is the fact that it’s not really the credit card’s fault that a lot of people are finding themselves in a credit card mess. Most people are in deep financial trouble simply because they failed to manage themselves.

Manage Your Stress by Managing Your Debt

If you agree that the cause of your stress is your debt problem, then the best solution is to solve your problem at the very root. Eliminate the problem by solving it so you can begin living a stress-free life.

So, if you have excessive debt because of your inability to manage your credit card use, it’s time to have control again. It can be done! What is needed is enough will power to push, to move forward, and be steadfast in your goal to be debt-free again.

To begin anew, here are five credit card habits credit card holders must never do, again.

1. Spending money that you have not earned yet. There will always be times when people will be forced to borrow from others, especially in times of emergency. To avoid being in such a situation, practice setting money aside as savings. The amount is immaterial, as long as you set aside an amount every payday.

Save Money

2. Spending More than What You Are Earning. Never be tempted to spend more than what you are earning. If you want peace of mind, follow the counsel to “live within your means”.

3. Using credit for ordinary day-to-day purchases. This is a no-no for credit cards. This is dangerous, and the underlying reason for this is that when one is using credit to pay for the basic essentials, it is a sign that his finances are not going well. But this is not absolute. Some credit card users will say they are using their credit card for such to gain rewards. Again this should be avoided. It is a known fact that people are less likely to pay for things that they have already consumed or used; ordinary purchases fall under this category.

4.  Using the credit card to pay off debts. This is one of the worst things a credit card holder can do. When a credit card is used to pay off debts such as loans, the hard reality is that you’re not really paying a debt. What you are doing is simply juggling your debts, and in the process, incurring more debt because of the interests and other charges added to your existing accounts payable. As this goes on and on, you will one day realize you are in too deep into the debt pit; it will be very hard to climb out of it!

5. Using credit when you have cash. Of all the facts said about people, debt, financial maturity, and financial management, this is a stand out statement: “if you don’t want to pay for it today, you’re not going to want to pay for it tomorrow”.

Stress is unhealthy. It may lead to more severe medical health problems later when they are not managed at the onset. If you feel you need to seek further medical treatment, it’s always wise to go and see your doctor. He will know what to do best!
